Frequently Asked Questions
Who can benefit from Safe
Storage?
Just about anyone. For instance, you might want
to free up space in your home or garage, or you
could use us for removal storage if you're moving
house. Just about any business can free up expensive
office rental space by storing documents with us.
Many businesses also use us for general storage
solutions - excess stock, bulk storage, or looking
after tools or samples. As we offer extended hours
and self storage access that's free and unlimited, some
businesses find it useful to make their space a
showroom or extension of their office, as well as
for storage. And lots of businesses and individuals
use us for parking for their cars or vans.

I'm moving house - why should I
store with you?
If you're selling your home, clearing out some of your possessions first will make it less cluttered and more attractive to buyers. If you're in a chain that's got held up then you can store everything with us for as long as it takes - your removal storage can be for as little as a month, and we only require 7 days notice to vacate. And remember, we're always checking prices locally so we can offer you the best possible deal on storage.

What exactly can I store?
As long as it's not illegal, dangerous, highly
inflammable, perishable, precious, or alive you can
store it.
Anything you store should be in compliance with
our terms and conditions.

How much will it cost?
You might be surprised at just how affordable our
self-storage solutions are. We're also constantly
checking our prices to make sure you always get the
most cost-effective storage locally. Furthermore,
there are various discounts, including business,
student, senior and military reductions, and a
variety of other ways in which you can save even
more money, such as prepayment options. Why not
contact us now for a quote?

How do I know someone won't
tamper with or steal my possessions?
When you rent with us, your unit will be securely
padlocked and only you will have the key. Even we
don't have access to your storage space. Other
security measures include monitored 24-hour CCTV and
extensive staff presence.

What about insurance?
For extra peace of mind, we recommend an
insurance specialist with flexible low cost
insurance specially tailored to either business or
domestic storage.

Why should I store with you when
I can use a friend's attic or our garage for free?
Even friends (and the space they can offer) have
their limits. Can you be sure everything is 100%
safe and accessible? And how secure, clean and dry
is your garage? Will everything fit in? (How about
your car?!)
What's the minimum / maximum
amount of time I can store for?
The minimum time is as little as one month, and
the maximum is as long as you want. The notice
period you give us can be as little as one week (7
days) - so you'll never have to pay for storage time
you don't need.

What if I rent the wrong room
size?
In this instance you can simply rebook and move
to the correct room size. Or, if the right size
isn't available, you can take an additional room.

I'm not sure how everything
should be packed - can you help?
Our trained, friendly staff are here to give you
all the help and advice you need. We also stock a
full range of packing materials suitable for all
kinds of storage solutions.

I might need less / more space
in the future. Is this a problem?
Of course not. You can easily decrease or
increase the space you rent - so you'll always have
enough space, but never end up paying for too much
space. You can find out how much space you're likely
to need by checking with our Office Staff.

Storage
& Packing Tips |
 |
|
|
| 1) |
Make a list of what you intend to store,
especially larger or unusual shaped items. Note items that
can fold down or be taken apart to make more space
i.e. beds. This will help you get the best possible quote
and enough packing materials. |
| 2) |
Calculate the value of what you have to
store and arrange insurance coverage. This can be done
in-store and must be taken out prior to moving your goods
in. |
| 3) |
Label all boxes clearly to help when
retrieving goods from your unit and unpacking. |
| 4) |
Allow large and heavy items to form the
base of the storage room with lighter items at the top. |
| 5) |
Use chest of drawers and wardrobes to
store boxes and paperwork, giving you extra room.
Position items you will need frequent access to at the
front of the unit. |
| 6) |
Cover all furniture with dust sheets
and remember to wrap table and chair legs to avoid
scratching. |
| 7) |
Store heavy items in smaller boxes
to make for easy lifting. Store china and breakables in
stronger cardboard and plastic boxes packing with bubble
wrap or tissue paper. |
| 8) |
Make sure fridges and freezers are
fully defrosted to prevent water damage and where
possible, leave the doors open to allow ventilation. |
| 9) |
Clean all garden furniture before
storing and make sure that your lawnmower is drained of
petrol. |
| 10) |
Purchase a padlock to secure your unit
(available in store). If there will be more than one person
accessing the unit (store will need notification of this)
consider a combination padlock. |

I'm
moving a house. What tips can you give me? |
 |
|
|
| |
One month to go... |
 |
Ring around for quotes from removal firms
and appoint one. Make sure they're properly insured and
establish exactly what they're prepared to do. We can
recommend reputable local removal and van hire firms whom
our customers regularly use and trust. |
 |
Order your packing materials. Remember, if
you buy a storage pack from us, we'll deliver it to you free
of charge. |
 |
Start packing any non-essential items such
as out-of-season clothing, together with your best china,
glassware, and ornaments. Mark the contents clearly. |
 |
Clear out the loft. Pack as many items as
you can from your garage and shed. |
 |
Let everyone know that you're changing
address. |
 |
Arrange to have post re-directed to your
new address - there's always someone you'll overlook when
you send out your change-of-address notes! |
 |
Keep all correspondence from your Estate
Agent, your Solicitor and the removals company safely
together for easy reference. |
 |
Contact your insurance company to arrange
transfer of your home and contents insurance on the move
day. Your buildings insurance should already be in place on
the day you move in. |
| |
Two weeks to go... |
 |
Start running down food stocks in your
freezer. |
 |
Continue to pack any items you won't need
before the move. |
 |
Arrange for someone to look after your
children and pets during the move. |
 |
Contact the gas, electric, telephone, and
water companies to inform them of the impending move. |
| |
One week to go... |
 |
Double-check the booking you've made with
your removal firm. |
 |
Keep your vacuum cleaner, dusters, polish,
etc., unpacked for that last once-over. |
 |
Cancel newspapers, milk, and window cleaning
and settle any bills you may have overlooked. |
| |
The day before... |
 |
Prepare your moving day 'survival kit'
containing a kettle, mugs, tea, coffee, milk, sugar,
teaspoons, sandwiches, snacks, biscuits, crisps, fruit,
washing-up liquid, tea towels, and a hand towel (not
forgetting the all important toilet roll!). |
 |
Pack all your valuables, such as jewelry,
together and carry them securely with you. |
 |
Keep the file containing all valuable
documents relating to the move with you at all times in case
you need to refer to them. |
 |
Advise the telephone company of the time
you want your telephone disconnecting (or the number
transferring, if you're keeping it). |
 |
Defrost the freezer and fridge (if you
intend to transport the freezer and its contents intact, put
it on fast-freeze overnight). |
 |
Make a list of useful telephone numbers for
the new occupiers of your home, plus instructions for
operating any appliances, central heating, etc. |
 |
Make sure you have cash available for the
unforeseen circumstances and for tipping your removal men. |
 |
Telephone your insurance company to
double-check that your new contents coverage will be in force
on the morning of the move. |
| |
The morning of the move... |
 |
Telephone the gas and electric companies to
give them your final meter readings. |
